Mahdavikia to be benched vs Leverkusen?

Only 40 hours after their 0-2 UEFA Cup defeat away to Monaco on Thursday evening, HSV is in action again.

HSV

Thomas Doll and his battle weary side visit the BayArena in Leverkusen on Saturday, where they will lock horns with Bayer Leverkusen in round 14 of the Bundesliga (26.11.05, kick off 3.30 pm). the club took no less than three masseurs with them to France, in an effort to tackle tired and weary legs.

Safety first which backfired…
Thomas Doll rang the changes in Monaco on Thursday evening. Right back Guy Demel returned to the side after a long injury lay off, he replaced Mehdi Mahdavikia. Rene Klingbeil, Piotr Trochowski and Emile Mpenza were chosen ahead of Tim Atouba, Stefan Beinlich and Benny Lauth. Doll made the changes with one eye on his side’s next Bundesliga clash away Leverkusen. Demel is expected to start the Bundesliga match instead of Mahdavikia. Those left out in Monaco should return against Leverkusen.

Home side hoping to improve
Leverkusen under their new coach Michael Skibbe, will be hoping to improve on their poor points tally at home. Until now Bayer has only taken a miserly 9 points in the BayArena so far. Skibbe will probable pick the same side which drew 1-1 away to Gladbach in round 13.

Key duo doubtful
HSV are waiting and hoping regarding the fitness of two of their key first team regulars. Paule Beinlich is having trouble shaking off a troublesome adductor problem and his fellow defensive midfielder Raphael Wicky has a calf injury. Doll is also without Reinhardt and Benjamin, who could have stepped in to replace the doubtful duo.

Naughty naughty…
Three HSV players will have to be on their best behaviour in Leverkusen on Saturday. Beinlich, Wicky and Jarolim all have four yellow cards to their names. A further card would mean that they miss the home game against Cologne in round 15. HSV is unbeaten away from home in the Bundesliga so far this season.
