Saipa remain top despite draw

TEHRAN- Saipa remain IPL leaders, despite being held at home by Bargh Shiraz in the sixth week of Iran Pro League.


Saipa, playing at home against Bargh, took the lead on 49 minutes by Hossein Karimi. The lead lasted only 5 minutes before Bargh equalised through Behrouz Pak-Niyat. Saipa remain top of the table with 13 points from 6 games.

In Shahid Dastgerdi Stadium in western Tehran, Pas received another blow as Sepahan converted two penalties to snatch a 3-2 victory despite an own goal. Sepahan striker Mahmoud Karimi was brought down in the area in the 20th minute, and Rasoul Khatibi converted the resulting penalty. Ali Janmaleki equalised for Pas 12 minutes later and Hadi Aghili’s own goal after 37 minutes put Pas 2-1 ahead. But Sepahan fought back to stun Pas with two goals in 38 and 40 minutes. Abbas Aghaei levelled the match after beating Pas keeper Hassan Roudbarian in a man-to-man challenge and scored his second and Sepahan`s third from the penalty spot. Roudbarian tripped Karimi, prompting the referee to show the spot.

In Takhti Stadium in the southern city of Ahvaz, Foulad saw off Peykan 1-0. National midfielder Iman Mobali fired home in the 35th with a powerful shot to help the Khuzestani team collect 3 more points.

Playing on the home field, Pegah beat Esteghlal Ahvaz with the only goal of the match coming in the 58th minute through Amir-Hossein Salamibakhsh.

The newly-promoted Saba Battery extended its losing streak as it was defeated in shiraz by Fajr. Mahmoud Mohammadi, Samad Zare, and Ali Alizadeh netted for the home team in the 42nd, 67th, and 68th minutes while the two goals of Saba came from Saeid Daghighi in 41 and 80 minutes. The game finished 3-2 for Fajr.

Zob Ahan were also winners in the 6th week, as they sent the visiting Malavan home with a 2-0 loss. Farshad Bahadorani opened the scoring with a sizzling 35-yard drive in the seventh minute. The second goal was scored in the 39th minute by Mehdi Rajabzadeh.

Abdollah Shah-Hosseini sealed Abu Moslem`s 1-0 victory over Shamoushak in Takhti Stadium in Mashhad. Shah-Hosseini scored the winner six minutes from the break.
