Rajabzadeh stars as Zob Ahan take lead in Iran

Four goals by Mehdi Rajabzadeh enabled Zob Ahan thrash Shahid Qandi 5-1 to climb on to the top of the Iran Pro League standings, while defending champions Foolad held Pas goalless in the ninth week here recently.

Brazilian Rodrigo Da Silva scored the fifth Zob Ahan goal, while Mohsen Hanifi pulled one back for Qandi. Zob Ahan is leading the table with 18 points, while Pas and Sepahan are on second and third positions respectively with 16 points each.

Both Foolad and Pas played an attacking game but failed to break the deadlock. Foolad were awarded a penalty kick in the first half but Pas goalkeeper Hassan Roodbarian did well to save Omid Sharifinasab’s attempt.

Third-placed Sepahan were held 1-1 by Abu Moslem. Anderanik Taymourian gave Abu Moslem the lead in the 52nd minute but Seyyed Ahmad Mohammadpour headed home the equaliser.

In other matches, Saipa and Esteghlal played a goalless draw, Fajr Sepasi defeated Malavan 1-0 and the match between Shamooshak and Bargh also ended in 1-1 stalemate. Earlier, Persepolis were held to a 2-2 draw by Saba Battery, while Rah Ahan sidelined Esteghlal Ahvaz 3-1.
