Brilliant Mes stuns Esteghlal at Azadi

Struggling Mes Kerman football team defeated Iran Professional League (IPL) leader Esteghlal on Sunday.

Mes beat giants Esteghlal 1-0 at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium. With just three minutes remaining, substitute Mohsen Khalili hit the bar and Ahmad Hosseinzadeh put the rebound into the net.

 Mes could have scored once again in the injury time but Croat striker Aljosa Vojnovic didn’t take advantage of his chance.

“I am happy because of my players’ performances in the match against Esteghlal. We increased the tempo in the second half and defeated them,” Miroslav Blazevic said during post-match news conference.

Elsewhere, Naft lost to Foolad 3-1, struggling Damash edged Sepasi 1-0, rock bottom Mes of Sarcheshmeh was held to a goalless draw by Malavan, Shahin was humiliated by Traktorsazi 3-0, Sepahan crashed Sanat Naft 4-0 in its away game, Zob Ahan was defeated 3-0 by Saipa and Saba defeated Rah Ahan 2-1.  

Persepolis is scheduled to play Shahrdari in Tabriz on Monday.
