Brazil futsal team in Iran for friendlies
The Brazilian futsal team is in Iran to play a few friendly matches against the Iranian national squad and an Iranian futsal club.
The world champions arrived in Iran on Monday and are scheduled to face Iran's national team on Wednesday, the Mehr news agency reported.
The head coach of the Iranian futsal team said that his side will make history by defeating Brazil for the first time.
Hossein Shams added, “Two of our players are injured, but I hope we can have them on the team in the match.”
The friendlies between the world champions Brazil and the Asian champions Iran will be played on Wednesday and Saturday at Isfahan's Pirouzi arena. The Brazilian team will also play a match against an Isfahani futsal club on Thursday.
Brazil is the top team in the world according to the official rankings and has won a record three straight championships in the FIFA Futsal World Cup.
However, the Iranian team is in 4th place in the FIFA Futsal World Rankings.
The ten-time winners of the Asian Futsal Championship have played in five editions of the FIFA Futsal World Championship, reaching the semifinals in their first appearance in 1992. Iran won the First FIFA Futsal Confederations Cup in Libya in 2009.
