Fereydoon Zandi announces his retirement

Iran's footballer has announces his retirement from the national team after the team's disappointing result against Albania.

Fereydoon Zandi met with the Iranian national team coach Carlos Queroz immidiately after the 1-0 defeat to announce his retirement.  According to Zandi "I think the national team needs the younger player to qualify for the 2014 World Cup. I wish the team and it's players the best".


Born in Emden, Germany; Zandi was one of the first non-born and naturalized players to ever play for the national team making his debut in 2007 against Bahrain and its currently playing for Esteghlal of Tehran.

Iran is scheduled to begin the second round of its World Cup Qualification against Uzbekistan on June 3 in Tashkent and it's grouped with South korea, Uzbakistan, Qatar, & Lebanon.
