Team Melli suffers its first ever defeat against Lebanon

Iran has suffered its first ever defeat against Lebanon during the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, shocking Iranian fans by one of the most awful results in Iran’s football history.

Lebanese midfielder Roda Antar scored his team’s solo goal with a header in the 28th minute. His goal was Lebanon’s first ever goal against Iran.

The two sides played six times in total, in which Iran beat Lebanon five times and one game finished in a draw.

Queiroz’s side has failed to meet the expectations during the World Cup qualifiers. Iran has earned four points so far thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory against Uzbekistan and a 0-0 draw against Qatar at Tehran’s Azadi stadium.

Team Melli missed the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Elsewhere in Tashkent, South Korea drew 2-2 with Uzbekistan. Iran, South Korea, Qatar, Lebanon, and Uzbekistan compete in Group A of the games. The top two teams will advance to the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil.

South Korea tops the group with seven points, while Iran, Qatar, and Lebanon trail the Koreans with four points.
