The UAE are on top of Group Five with four points from two games.
“Besides the result, it was rather the manner of managing the game that really impressed me overall against Syria," Metsu said on Friday.
"The resolute will of the players on the ground will propel us further ahead in the qualifiers."
“The way we took the game to our hosts after conceding the opener in the first-half showed the squad’s true character."
UAE face Iran in the next match in June.
"I am also pleased with the 2-2 draw between Iran and Kuwait. It’s a long process but I firmly believe we are on the right track.
“This being said, we have to work on some real gaps and sustain consistency. Both aspects are vital for our progress and topping the table now is just what we need to build on.” he completed.
