Amir Shapourzadeh plays 45min against HSV

Hamburg kept up their charge for a European place next season with a timely win at Hansa Rostock.

PA.

Ivica Olic put the visitors in front in the first half and then scored his second after the break.

The goals came either side of a Rafael van der Vaart strike. An own goal from Joris Mathijsen provided scant consolation for Rostock.

Despite just four wins in their last 17 matches, Hamburg flew out of the starting blocks at the DKB Stadion. They took the lead in the 18th minute, with their first goal in 368 minutes of football.

Jose Pablo Guerrero spotted Olic heading into a gap and put the cross over to him.

The Croatian had to stretch but managed to volley into the net.

After a long wait for a goal, the visiting fans only had to wait nine minutes for another. Guerrero again provided the assist, his ball in the box falling to Van der Vaart, who also caught it on the volley, with a deflection into the net.

Hamburg fans could scarcely believe their luck in the 51st minute, as their team put the result beyond doubt. Olic pounced just inside the penalty area and drilled the ball into the net.

Another Hamburg player was on the scoresheet in the 76th minute.

Mathijsen got in the way of Enrico Kern's shot, which took a deflection off him and past goalkeeper Frank Rost into the net.
