Rahman Rezaei to leave Relegated Livorno

Livorno's relegation to Serie B was confirmed on Sunday as they slipped to a narrow defeat to Torino, which secured the visitors' top-flight status.

Livorno 0-1 Torino

Fernando Orsi's team entered the penultimate weekend of fixtures knowing only victory would save them from the drop, but a Alessandro Rosina goal just before the break sealed their fate.

Livorno's hopes of staying up were not helped by a Italian football league decision in midweek to ban six of their players following their involvement in verbal and physical altercations with officials and rival players after last weekend's game against Atalanta.

Defender Alessandro Grandoni was banned for five matches, while midfielder Emanuele Filippini received a three-match suspension and defender Giovanni Pasquale a two-game ban.

David Balleri, Antonio Filippini, Simone Pavan will also missed Sunday's match.

Toro threatened in the seventh minute when Rosina crossed for David Di Michele at the near post, but his powerful header was well saved by Marco Amelia.

Torino dominated the early possession but apart from Di Michele's effort they failed to find a clear sight of goal.

After 17 minutes Livorno had their first chance when Dario Knezevic crossed for Fausto Rossini, but he headed wide.

The hosts threatened again two minutes later, with Nico Pulzetti seeing his shot deflected wide off a defender and from the resulting corner Matteo Malara headed narrowly wide.

Torino took the lead four minutes before the interval when Dos Sidny failed to clear a seemingly innocuous cross and Di Michele unselfishly passed to Rosina to tap the ball in.

After the break Torino went in search of a second goal that would give them the breathing space they desired as they looked to secure their Serie A safety.

Alessandro Diamanti showed his attacking threat to dribble into the area but his cross was deflected for a corner.

The 24-year-old striker then fired a shot from the edge of the area which drew an impressive save from Matteo Sereni.

Livorno had the ball in the back of the net soon after through half-time substitute Francesco Tavano, but it was disallowed for offside.

Massimo Loviso then saw his long-range strike fly narrowly wide of the target, but it would prove the last of Livorno's efforts on goal as Torino set about denying them possession.

The home fans were left frustrated by their side's inability to get a hold of the ball as their hopes of avoiding the drop faded away.

In the final minute their losing margin could have been greater when Rosina's long ball found Di Michele in space, but Daniele De Vezze slid in to clear the danger.

By then though Livorno's fate had already been sealed.
