Saudi Arabia’s preparations for June’s series of 2010 World Cup qualifiers moved up a gear with a 1-0 friendly defeat over Syria.

Syria, under new coach Mohammed Kwid, fought their way back into the match and hit the woodwork twice in the second half -first through star striker Ziad Chabo and then Raja Rafe.
Saudi Arabia are third in Group Four of the Asian zone of qualification with three points from two games and face Lebanon on June 2.
Before that, the Saudi have another friendly on Monday, this time against Kuwait.
Syria meet Kuwait in their next World Cup qualifier in Damascus on June 2. Syria are currently third in Group Five with two points to their name.
