Meydavoudi on target to help Al Ahli lead UAE league

ABU DHABI: Bare and Milad Midawdi scored either side of the break as Al Ahli defeated Al Wasl 2-0 to open a slim lead in the UAE League after the fifth week of action recently.

Al Ahli’s climb to the top was aided by Al Ain’s 2-2 draw with Al Nasr which saw the former slipping to second in the 12-team table.

Bare opened the scoring for Ahli on 28 minutes before Midawdi doubled it a minute short of the hour.

The win took Ahli to 12 points, one more than Al Ain, who had Senegalese Andria Sango’s 55th minute equaliser to thank for their draw.

Al Jazeera and Al Wahda were tied on 10 points each after a 1-0 win over Al Shaab and a 3-2 victory over Sharjah respectively.

In other matches, Al Khaleej and Al Shabab drew 1-1 while Ajman and Dhafrah fought out a goalless draw.

STANDINGS (After fifth round): 1. Al Ahli 12, 2. Al Ain 11, 3. Al Jazeera 10, 4. Al Wahda 10, 5. Al Nasr 7
