Clemente was supposed to meet with officials at the Iranian embassy in Madrid on Thursday to renegotiate the offer to coach the country's national soccer team.
"We are not thinking about Clemente any more," Iranian Football Federation (FFI) chief Ali Kafashian said.
Following Javier Clemente's initial refusal to live in Iran while coaching the national team, the IFF announced Monday it would be appointing a homegrown coach within the next 48 hours.
However, instead of disclosing the name of the new coach on Wednesday Kafashian announced the IFF was reentering negotiations with Clemente.
