"After two years, we had a convincing performance in the opener of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women's Asian Cup qualifiers," Shahrzad Mozaffar said after the match at Ho Chi Minh City's Thanh Long Stadium on Monday.

"Undoubtedly, we would have acted better if our team was founded sooner and we did not make the mistakes we had done today," she added.

"I am satisfied with my players since they have done their best," Mozaffar noted, adding that the team has an ambitious goal to finish among the top eight squads in the next Asian Cup.

The Vietnam's women's football team thrashed Iran 4-1 in their first game of the 2008 AFC Women's Asian Cup on Monday. Iran will play its next match against Southeast Asia's reining champions Myanmar on March 26.

Iran is grouped with Vietnam, Chinese Taipei and Myanmar in Group A, while the Group B includes Thailand, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines and Malaysia.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the final round which is slated for May 28 to June 8 in Malaysia.
