UAE announces squad ahead of Iran clash

Dubai: The UAE national team coach Bruno Metsu has selected 24 players for the World Cup qualifiers next month against Iran, Kuwait and Syria.

The team will assemble on May 26 at Al Ain Hilton.

They will then hold training sessions over the next four days before leaving on May 31 for Tehran where they will meet Iran on June 2.

The UAE will play Iran again on June 7 in the return match in Al Ain.

Their third match will be away against Kuwait on June 14 and they will finish their round of matches against Syria in Al Ain on June 22.

UAE currently top the standings in Group E with four points.

They beat Kuwait 2-0 in Abu Dhabi and drew with Syria 1-1 in Damascus.

Iran and Syria each have two points and Kuwait have one.


Metsu's selection dismissed Al Shabab strikers Salim Sa'ad and Surour Salim but included Abdul Rahim Juma of Al Wahda, who returns after a long absence through injury.

Squad: Majid Naser, Obaid Al Taweela, Esmail Rabea, Haydar Allo Ali, Tariq Hasan, Rashid Abdul Rahman, Basheer Saeed, Saleh Obaid, Obaid Khalifa, Faris Juma, Hilal Saeed, Abdullah Mal Allah, Abdul Rahim Juma, Darwish Ahmad, Sibait Khater, Mohammad Ebrahim, Ahmad Mubarak, Esmail Hamady, Esmail Mattar, Mohammad Shehhy, Saif Mohammad, Mohammad Surour, Ahmad Khalil, Faisal Khalil.
