Exclusive: Can Behrang Safari still play for Iran?
IranSportsPress: Behrang Safari has played three friendly matches for the Swedish national team, one of them against Costa Rica, in a game which Louay Chanko also played for Sweden. Now Louay Chanko is called up for Syria ahead of their World Cup qualifiers.
Iran has during many years now lacked strong competition on the left back position. Sweden though has been planning for their future and already invited young promising talent Behrang Safari. Safari though is born in Iran and is a double citizen. Considering the Syrian move this means Safari could be called up today for Iran and strengthen the competition in the troubled left back position. Safari in his teens played as an offensive midfielder before he was schooled to play as left back and has since been one of the best left backs in the Swedish league. Safari is poised to be transferred to a bigger club in Europe soon since he has stalled his extension talks with his club Malmö FF.
