TEHRAN- (IranSportsPress.com): Perspolis Football Club is looking for a new head coach, after Afshin Ghotbi decided not to renew his contract with the Iranian champions.
The news was announced by Habib Kashani, the managing director of Perspolis on Friday. "Our discussions with Mr Ghotbi were not fruitful, and he has insisted on leaving the club. Ghotbi is yet to officially announce his decision, but we are certain he will not re-new his contract" said Kashani.
He added "We will start looking for a new coach on Saturday. Hamid Estili is our first choice, and Mohamad Khakpour is our second choice."
It is believed that Ghotbi has even packed his belongings and will leave Iran soon.
Afshin Ghotbi joined Perspolis at the beginning of the season, and promised to win the championship in his first year. He soon became a huge favourite with the fans, and was also in contention to become the head coach of Team Melli, before Ali Daei was surprisingly picked for the job instead. Hamid Estili, who was Ghotbi's assistant coach, is now expected to step up and lead Perspolis next season.
