"I joined Persepolis to make the fans happy and help the club defend its championship title and bring it success in the Asian games," Abedzadeh said Thursday upon signing a one-year contract to coach the team's goalies.
While former national team coach Afshin Peyrovani also recently joined the ranks of Persepolis coaches, the club is expected to soon appoint a head coach to steer the squad.
Last May, Persepolis won the Iranian Premier League Championship and became the first club to win the title for a second time. Its head coach Afshin Qotbi, however, promptly resigned upon taking home the title due to personal problems.
The 42-year-old Abedzadeh is perhaps the best-known Iranian goalkeeper, whose spirit and quick moves led Iran to the World Cup 1998. |
