Iran Olympic basketball to face Argentina

Iran's national basketball team has been drawn into Group A of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to face defending champions Argentina.

The Asian champions will also play against Lithuania, Russia and Australia. Group A's sixth team will be decided in an Olympic qualifying tournament, which will be held in Greece's Athens in July.

In Group B, defending world champions Spain will face Americas champion the United States, Olympic host China and African champions Angola with two further qualifiers from the Athens tournament.

China is scheduled to face the US in the opener of the Olympic basketball competitions, which will be held from August 9 to 24.

In the women's draw, Russia, Australia and South Korea will compete against each other in Group A. Three more teams will be decided in a qualifying tournament which will be held in Spain's Madrid in June.

In Group B, defending Olympic champions from the US will face China, Mali, New Zealand and two more qualifiers from the Madrid tournament.

In both men's and women's tournaments, the top four teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals to compete for Olympic medals.
