“I didn't have any physical problems to continue the competitions but I prefer to call it quits,” Heidari told reporters on Thursday.
The 32-year-old wrestler shocked Iran's Wrestling Federation with his unexpected announcement.
Heidari was among some 84 Iranian wrestlers as well as 11 Turkish and 4 Canadian wrestlers who have taken part in the two-day Takhti Cup, which ends Friday.
The champion wrestler was selected as the 1999 National Sportsman of the Year in Iran.
