Rezazadeh Retains World Title

TEHRAN- (IranSportsPress.com): Hossein Rezazadeh retained the title of the ‘World’s strongest man’ after winning three gold medals in the heavy-weight division of the 2006 World Weightlifting Championships held in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic.

Ali Azim-Araghi

Rezazadeh won gold in snatch, after lifting 202 Kg in his second attempt. This was Rezazadeh’s first gold medal in snatch since 2002.

The Iranian Hercules won the clean & Jerk event after lifting 246 Kg in his second attempt, completing a winning total of 448 Kg.

Rezazadeh, who had previously won 2 successive Olympic gold medals, together with three world titles, finished ahead of Artem Udachyn from Ukraine. China’s Feng Dong finished third with a total of 237 Kg.

Rezazadeh was the only Iranian weightlifter who participated in the competition, after the entire Iranian weightlifting team was banned, after nine out of 11 members of the squad tested positive for doping. However Rezazadeh received a personal invite by the International Weightlifting Federation President, Tamas Ajan.
