Iranian wrestler wins gold in London
Iranian lightweight freestyle wrestler Farzad Ja'fari has won a gold medal at the London Prepares Wrestling International Invitational test event.
Ja'fari defeated US wrestler Angel Escobedo 7-3 in the 55-kilogram category at the ExCeL Center in London on Sunday, a Press TV correspondent reported.
He beat Adrian Hajduk from Poland to reach the final.
Another Iranian wrestler, Ehsan Lashgari, outclassed Jake Herbert from the United States in the third-place playoff of the 84-kilogram category to win a bronze for the Iranian squad.
On Saturday, the Iranian Greco-Roman wrestling team stood second in the medal count standings with one gold and one bronze.
Qasem Rezaei won a gold medal in the 94-kilogram category and Saeed Abdevali pocketed a bronze for the Islamic Republic.
The London Prepares Wrestling International Invitational was part of the London Prepares series, which has been held as a test event for the London Olympics 2012 since May.
