Iranian female shooter in Olympics air rifle event’s finals

An Iranian female shooter has shone in the women’s 10-meter air rifle event of London Olympic Games by joining eight others in advancing to the final round.
Iranian female shooters Elahe Ahmadi and Mahlaqa Jam-Bozorg both competed today against 54 other competitors in the 10m air rifle event and it was Ahmadi that advanced to the final round by a score of 397.
Ahmadi’s score in the preliminary round put her in fifth place and facilitated her advance to the finals along with eight other shooters. Jam-Bozorg, however, could only muster a score of 391 in four sets, falling short of advancing to the next round.
Ahmadi was able to gather her high score by scoring 99 (out of 100) in the first two sets, a perfect 100 in the third, and another 99 in the fourth set.
Two top shooters in the preliminary round were from China and Poland with the score of 399 in the event. Another Chinese and a Russian shooter took the third and fourth places with a score of 398.
Ahmadi, along with three other female shooters scored 397 to gain entry to the next and final round, which will be held later today.
Iran has dispatched a team of 54 athletes to London’s 2012 Olympics contesting in a variety of fields, including archery, table tennis, wrestling, weightlifting, rowing, boxing, track and field, swimming and taekwondo.
More than 10,000 athletes from over 200 nations are participating in London’s 2012 summer Olympic Games.
