Alamiyan gets 1st Olympic table tennis victory for Iran

Iranian player Noshad Alamiyan has gained the country’s first victory in table tennis in the history of the Olympic Games in London.

Alamiyan defeated Justin Han of Australia in four sets 11-5, 11-7, 11-7, and 13-11 in the Men’s Singles event at the 2012 London Olympic Games on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Alamiyan is the fifth Iranian man to compete in the table tennis event of the Olympic Games. In 1992 in Barcelona, Ebrahim Aidokht Mirzabou was on duty, eight years later in Sydney the representative was Majid Reza Ehteshamzadeh.

In 2004 in Athens, Iran's player was Mohammadreza Akhlaqpasand and in Beijing four years ago, Afshin Norouzi was the Iranian tennis player.

Alamiyan won both the Men’s Singles and Under 21 Men’s Singles titles at the 4th Hassan II Morocco Open in Rabat. London is his debut in the Olympic Games.
