Iranian athlete Mohammad Bagheri competing at Taekwondo’s 68Kg weight division has come in second place at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Bagheri lost to Servet Tazegul of Turkey by the nail-biting score of 6-5 in the finals; after overcoming athletes from Brazil, Afghanistan, and Central African Republic.
Bagheri is no stranger to Tazegul as they met last year at the World Taekwondo Championships with Tazegul winning a thrilling 9-8 match in the final seconds. Nikpah Rohullah of Afghanistan came in third and received the bronze medal at this division.
After today’s medal, Iran stands in 14th place in gold medal count while tied at 19th place in total medal count with 4 golds, 4 silvers, and one Bronze. Medal hopefuls in Taekwondo and Free Style Wrestling are yet to compete starting tomorrow.
