Mohammad Bana steps down as Iran Greco-Roman coach
“My mission is done here at the national team and it has nothing to do with me from now on..."
TEHRAN – Iran Greco-Roman coach Mohammad Bana resigned from his post on Friday.
Bana, who inspired the Iran Greco-Roman wrestling team to win the championship at the London Olympic Games, announced his resignation when he returned to Iran.
“My mission is done here at the national team and it has nothing to do with me from now on. I need to rest. God gave me everything I want. It’s time to go,” Bana said.
Iran’s Greco-Roman team won three gold medals in the London 2012 Olympic Games. Hamid Sourian claimed the gold in the 55kg class. Omid Noroozi won the gold in the 60kg class and Ghasem Rezaei seized the gold in the 96kg weight class.
“I had put aside three more medals for our three wrestlers. It was a dream Olympics for us. Thanks to all for blessing us during the competitions,” he added.
