Iranian athletes finish 11th at London Paralympics

Iranian Paralympians have wrapped up the London 2012 Paralympic Games with 24 medals, standing in the 11th place of the tournament.

On the final day, Iran’s seven-a-side football team defeated Brazil 5-0 at the Olympic Park on Sunday to pocket the bronze medal, which was the country’s last medal in the games. 

In the previous Paralympics in Beijing, Iran stood in the 22nd place with five golds, six silvers, and three bronze medals. 

Iranian athletes participated in archery, athletics, cycling, five-a-side football, seven-a-side football, goalball, judo, powerlifting, shooting, swimming, table tennis, sitting volleyball, and wheelchair tennis. 

Athletics earned most medals of the Iranian squad with a total of 13 medals (five golds, five silvers, and three bronzes). 

China topped the Paralympics standings for the third consecutive time with 95 golds, 71 silvers, and 65 bronze medals. 

Russia overtook host Britain to stand second with 36 golds, 38 silvers, and 28 bronzes. Britain finished third with 34 golds, 43 silvers, and 43 bronze medals.
