Dashti developed the procedureabout six years ago to save a dying teenage girl. He knew that the cancer drug Avastin quelled radiation necrosis when injected intravenously, but only temporarily and with horrible side effects.

So he injected a smaller dose of Avastin directly to her brain. The girl's disease cleared up and never returned.
